Ok so here’s the thing
-Designers are sending us resumes that are basic and not designed.
-They’re sending us resumes with typos
-They’re sending us resumes that break a lot of the rules of design and I’m just so shocked.
-They’re not sending us their portfolio THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT. WHY? WHY WHY WHY?!
-Some portfolio'sare strictly illustration
-I need to see someone who can do a variety of print design. That means flyers logos brochures invitations etc
-If I see you have a low gpa but a decent portfolio, to me that means you’re lazy/there’s just something about you that’s bad news therefore you’re not going to perform well. But of course we’ll still cal you but just saying. It doesn’t look great.
-they made their own website and it’s confusing and not performing well
This is just ugh
Here’s the thing. We want to hire college students, but we’re looking for college students that did an internship or did some freelance work. You can’t just go to school and work at like Starbucks or something. I know too many students that are so scared of internships. They graduate without doing one. It’s so crucial that you do one!
i can’t stand these design firms with crazy web sites. i shouldn’t have to be on your website, sitting there and figuring out how it works!!! make it simple! i can’t tell you how many times i’ve visited a firms site and clicked out so fast because of how insane the site looks.
Sometimes I wanna listen to Vampire Weekend and wear preppy Ralph Lauren sweater, and then sometimes I wanna listen to the White Stripes and dress like a total badass like Jack White. Then sometimes I want to jam to MGMT and wear sunflowers, scarfs, and a billowy skirt. Then sometimes I wanna rock a leather jacket and listen to the Arctic Monkeys is that too hard to understand?
